I am a London-born journalist and bookworm originating from Ghana. My name is Abena Sɛwaa but I’m also known by the nickname MisBeee. I launched MisBeee Writes in 2013 as a way to record thoughts that (at the time) had no public outlet. The blogspot took on a life of its own and became my way of recording the inspiring stories of everyday people; keeping a timeless record of cultural events and opinions from Africans in the Diaspora. The site focusses on health, culture, the arts, business and society, and explores how Africans are shaping and disrupting conventional thinking and discourse in these areas.

Digital painter uses people power to grow business

A chance encounter with a Ghanaian actress changed one jobless digital artist’s passion for creating, into a full-time job. His name is Danny Arthur-Baidoo and hers Ama K Abebrese – best known for her award-winning performance in the Sinking Sands. Danny was doing his National Service (work experience required of all students in Ghana after tertiary education) back in 2015 and took a break to visit his home town of Takoradi where he randomly saw Ama K buying waakye in the market. Film Africa 2018: Showcasing contemporary African film

Film Africa 2018 returns to London for an eighth year and will be showcasing titles from 15 African countries and African-themed films from 18 countries across the UK and EU between 2 November and 11 November. These films include UK and world premieres such as The Burial of Kojo by Ghanaian hip hop artist turned writer/director Blitz Bazawule (aka Blitz the Ambassador). Pa Gya – A Literary Festival

Pa Gya! is a literary festival in Accra, Ghana that organised by the Writers Project of Ghana and Goethe-Institut Ghana. The festival seeks to engage the general public on a literary platform, and to showcase writers and their craft. As such, various activities such as readings, panel discussions, poetry and story-telling sessions, book launches, the launch of literary prizes and performance of different literary forms are being planned for the two-day festival. Pa Gya 2018 – #WhenWritersGather

The Writers’ Project Ghana and the Goethe-Institut Ghana collaborated for a second time in October 2018 to produce Pa Gya – A Literary Festival. And thank God they did. This event drew on the rich history of oral storytelling that is embedded in Ghanaian and wider African cultures. It also celebrated the wealth of talent from across Africa and the Diaspora, and created a space for controversial topics to be aired, challenged and explored.
